A fruit grower has tools that pertain directly to his trade. For trees ladders and large bucks are needed to hold and harvest the fruits. Brambles and other berries or grapes typacally only require hand tools and small buckets.
Hand pruners are necessary for each fruit crop regardless of what you are growing. These must be by-pass pruners not anvil type. This means the blade passes by the 'finger' or opposit arm of the pruner. These give a very clean cut. The anvil type tend to dull quicker and often smash the branch breaking appart the bark slightly as the blade comes down on the other steel arm. Felco and Pica are two companies who make supirior pruners.
A hand saw will be enough for most pruning jobs. The goal for fruit trees is to leave 3-5 low branches that will never be cut out and 2-3 higher branches. These will be the only branches that should get large enough a chain saw would be necessary.
String and ties are necessary for managing fruit trees and berries. Each apple tree should secured to a stake or trelis system. Peach, pear, and cherry typically are free standing unless a dwarf root stock is used for cherry. Berries should have a two wire paralell system about 36" above the ground to secure the canes to.
